Sam Milstone, LPC (he/him)

Suffering is an ineradicable part of life.

I am certain you have already found things to do to make your suffering easier to deal with, and I aim to provide a harm-reductive approach to refine these solutions to better serve you. I believe that no matter how long we spend together, you will always be the expert when it comes to yourself. Your treatment will rely on this expertise as a tool to carve your path toward living a more empowered and meaningful life—whatever that means to you. I am not interested in providing you with any naive advice, but instead, listening and supporting you as we explore possible solutions and research-backed strategies to make your life easier to live.

My practice with teens and adults often uses the tenets of geek therapy to employ my client’s hobbies and interests as safe context for their uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. My approach is client-centered, solution-focused, and feminist in its critical examination of our constructed lives and relationships. To find reasonable solutions to our problems, I find it important to contextualize our struggles within the oppressive weight of our cultural climate. I enjoy working with fellow LGBTQIA+ people and couples to celebrate our identities whether it be our queer sexuality, gender-queerness, ethnic identity, mental diagnoses, or neurodivergence.

Outside of counseling, I am a proud Chicagoan transplant, who loves woodworking, guitar, movies, my dog, and prepping for one of my Dungeons & Dragons campaigns when I am not in class pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Adler University.
