At Positive Regard Therapy, we specialize in helping young adults and college students navigate the challenges of growing up, finding direction, and managing mental health during one of life’s most transformative stages.
Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, identity, relationships, or school stress, our therapists provide a supportive, affirming space to help you move forward with confidence.
Young adulthood is a time of enormous growth—and often, enormous pressure. Our therapists help clients build balance, self-understanding, and emotional resilience through compassionate, goal-oriented counseling.
Starting or finishing college, entering the workforce, or moving away from home can be both exciting and overwhelming. We’ll help you manage academic pressure, decision-making, independence, and new social environments, so you can thrive rather than just cope.
If you’re feeling stuck, unmotivated, or weighed down by anxiety or sadness, you’re not alone. Together, we’ll identify what’s keeping you from feeling like yourself and develop practical skills to improve focus, mood, and daily functioning.
College and early adulthood are key moments for exploring identity, sexuality, and values. Our therapists offer a safe, non-judgmental space to explore who you are—whether you’re navigating gender identity, cultural identity, or sexual orientation—at your own pace and on your own terms.
Throughout your therapy journey, you may expect:

Young adulthood comes with rapid change — new responsibilities, relationships, and expectations. At Positive Regard Therapy, our therapists help young adults manage anxiety, depression, identity exploration, academic pressure, family conflict, and life transitions. Whether you’re starting college, entering the workforce, or figuring out who you are, therapy offers a supportive space to navigate these challenges with confidence.
If stress, anxiety, or sadness are affecting your motivation, focus, or relationships, therapy can help. Many young adults come to us when they feel stuck, isolated, or unsure how to move forward. Counseling provides tools for managing emotions, building coping skills, and rediscovering your sense of direction and purpose.
Our sessions are collaborative and tailored to your goals. You’ll work with a therapist who understands young adult issues — from college transitions and career uncertainty to relationships, identity, and self-esteem. We’ll talk about what’s working, what isn’t, and create strategies to help you feel more grounded and capable in daily life.
Yes. Everything you share in therapy is confidential, with few legal exceptions related to safety. We understand that privacy is essential, especially if you’re navigating sensitive topics like family relationships, sexuality, or mental health. Our therapists provide a secure, judgment-free environment where you can speak freely and authentically.
Absolutely. Many students struggle with perfectionism, procrastination, and exhaustion during school or early career stages. Therapy helps you develop tools to manage time, motivation, and emotional energy, so you can perform well without sacrificing mental health. We’ll help you balance ambition with self-care.
Positive Regard Therapy is LGBTQ+ affirming and identity-inclusive. Many young adults use therapy to explore questions about gender, sexuality, and cultural identity in a space that’s supportive, not prescriptive. You don’t need to have it all figured out — we’ll help you understand yourself at your own pace, on your own terms.
Yes. We offer secure telehealth sessions across Illinois, in addition to in-person appointments at our Andersonville office in Chicago. Online therapy is ideal for college students balancing busy schedules or clients who have moved but still want to continue care with their therapist.
Every person’s goals and pace are different. Some clients find short-term therapy (6–12 sessions) helpful for immediate stress relief or decision-making, while others continue long-term for deeper self-growth and emotional support. Your therapist will collaborate with you to determine what’s most effective for your needs and schedule.
That’s completely okay. Your first session is simply a conversation to learn about your goals and comfort level. We’ll explain what to expect and answer any questions you have. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to — our job is to create a supportive, judgment-free space from day one.
You don’t have to figure everything out alone. Our experienced therapists are here to help you gain insight, clarity, and confidence in your next chapter.
