Mike Unhoch, LCPC, ALMFT (he/him)
I work with individuals, couples, and relationships of all kinds (straight and LGBTQ+). I consider societal and cultural influences while helping clients to explore their relationship/intimacy issues, sexuality, identity, struggles with depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mental health concerns. I take a sex positive approach and am attuned to the needs of poly, non-monogamous, open, kink, and BDSM clients.
I believe healing can come from self-awareness and active living or “being” in the world. It can come from understanding the intersections between self, others, and society/culture, and through an appreciation of emotion to guide us to our needs, identity, and to each other.
The world can be awe-inspiring, fun, and full of intense connection and love; it can also be overwhelming, scary, isolating, and encourage feelings of insignificance. We can accept all these feelings and experiences as they create robust, diverse, resilient, and beautiful people.
I view the counseling process as a journey where I act as your guide. However, you are the experts in your own lives, perspectives, and experiences. It is my job to listen to you with appreciation and non-judgment. Counseling is an experience itself, and we will influence and learn from each other as we work on your goals and hopes together.
